The city is the third most populated municipality of Italy, but the second metropolitan area, after Milan. It was founded between the 7th and 6th centuries BC by the Greeks and was named Neapolis, which means new city. The historic centre of Naples has earned the UNESCO World Heritage Site denomination. It has one of the biggest historical city centres in the world, and its pride are the 448 historical and monumental churches, the highest number in the World for a single city.

Naples’ wealth of cultural assets is extraordinary. You’ll find two royal palaces, three castles, and ancient ruins that include some of Christianity’s oldest frescoes. The city’s Museo Archeologico Nazionale claims the world’s finest collection of Pompeiian frescoes and mosaics, while its Cappella Sansevero holds Italy’s most extraordinary marble sculpture. You’ll find Caravaggio masterpieces in the Pio Monte della Misericordia, Palazzo Zevallos Stigliano and Museo di Capodimonte, the latter palace home to countless masterpieces. Of course, we could also mention all those frescoed baroque cupolas, but that would just be boasting.

To have seen Italy without having seen Sicily is not to have seen Italy at all

A land of deep family traditions, the island of Sicily has a history spanning centuries. Awash with sweeping scenery, breath-taking buildings and architecture, famous food and a captivating community, Sicilian culture is both rich and varied. Such is the proud nature of its people that the island’s inhabitants identify as Sicilians first and Italians second. Their dialect, Sicilian, is officially recognised by UNESCO as an endangered language and it is so different from Italian that even Italians do not understand it.

Sicilian Royalty
Whether it is your first trip or your tenth, a visit to Palermo isn’t complete without a stop at Palazzo dei Normanni, the royal palace. Resplendent in all its Norman-Moorish-Gothic-neo-Classical glory, it was originally created by the Emir of Palermo in the 9th century and remains one of the oldest palaces in Europe.

Marvel at the central courtyard with its grandiose stone arches or head straight to the Cappella Palatina. This gilded chapel was built in honour of the Norman Kings and features mesmerizing golden Byzantine mosaics covering the walls.

A Sicilian hideaway that fuels the imagination

Set in the heart of Taormina, Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo serves up views that have enchanted for more than a century.
The first hotel to be built in the city gazes out across the coast towards Mount Etna and beyond. Here you can breathe in the full spectacle of Sicily. Bask in manicured gardens, savour sensational cuisine and fuel your imagination with cocktails on the Literary Terrace—just like generations of celebrated guests before you.

Set high in the rocky hills on the East coast of the island, with Mount Etna as a backdrop, Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo has always been one of the favourite destinations of both Hollywood’s and Europe’s most prominent stars; from Sofia Loren to Audrey Hepburn, from Marcello Mastroianni to Liz Taylor. Adjacent to the Greek Theatre, the hotel was first built in 1873 and is surrounded by a six-acre park and magnificent gardens where the panoramic pool is located. Widely considered to be the most luxurious hotel in Taormina, it boasts 70 splendid rooms and suites, each decorated in a fresh Sicilian style that blends modern innovation with local artisan traditions. This historical hotel is well known for its “Literary Terrace” which has always been a preferred meeting spot for illustrious guests thanks to its breathtaking panorama. Dining facilities include the Restaurant with an enchanting view of Mount Etna combined with typical Sicilian and Mediterranean cuisine. The Pool Restaurant offers brick-oven pizza, a salad buffet and freshly caught fish, it is the perfect place for a light lunch or a snack. The wellness centre offers signature treatments made from local flowers and fruit essences. A fitness centre and a panoramic swimming-pool are also available Guests can benefit of the complimentary shuttle to the private beach at sister property Belmond Villa Sant’Andrea, in Taormina Mare, boasting new exclusive cabanas, as well as the daily mini-cruise by private boat to explore the beauties of the coast (available during summer). At Villa Tasca, I knew the full beauty, the noble and peaceful splendor, of Palermo’s pure and immense light” (Anna de Noalles, 1913)

All the glories of Italy’s past—stately neoclassical architecture, trompe-l’oeil frescoes, Murano chandeliers, gilt-framed paintings—make for a sumptuous present at this Renaissance villa between Palermo and Monreale. While parts of the estate date from the 1500s, the exquisite 20-acre gardens transport visitors to the late-1800s Romantic era—all 7 minutes from the must-see Cappella Palatina.
Play family games on the lush lawns, stir up Victorian-style intrigue amid century-old trees and citrus groves, steal a honeymoon-worthy moment in the greenhouse, and watch the swans paddle their way around their pond. There’s also a swimming pool and furnished terrace and, inside, a billiards room, music room, bar, TV, and Wi-Fi. Your holiday at the estate includes service from a full staff.
The villa itself rises proudly out of the gardens, with a double staircase sweeping up to its main floor. The living and dining rooms are laid out on a grand scale, with high ceilings, tall windows, and decorations on nearly every surface, whether landscape paintings filling the walls and area rugs overlaying the polished stone floors or colorful motifs splashing across the tile.
A historic place and a family home in one. A living environment where guests will be immersed in the same atmosphere experienced by Jacqueline Kennedy, King Ferdinand IV and Queen Caroline, Bismarck, Margherita di Savoia, or set to music by composers as Wagner or Verdi.

Mykonos is probably the most famous Greek island

The island of Mykonos is best known for its chic style, fashionable nightlife and beautiful golden beaches.

A fabulous destination, Mykonos is a playground for the rich and famous, sparkling under the Aegean sun. The most cosmopolitan of the Greek islands, it offers a vibrant beach life with some of Greece’s most famous beaches, a plethora of activities and water sports, wonderful views, a fabulous variety of great restaurants.

Mykonos, however, is not just about intense lifestyles. It is an island suitable for children, as well as adults, with most people staying at home by the pool or on a beach during the day and venturing out to the town’s restaurants and nightlife. Aficionados of Greek ancient history will be fascinated by the nearby sacred island of Delos, the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis, one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece. Sail away to secluded beaches nearby, or relax by the pool watching the sun set and you will find that Mykonos can offer one of the most relaxing holiday experiences.

The island’s largest town – called Mykonos Town or Chora – is a picture-postcard setting on the west coast. The town is sophisticated and cosmopolitan, but also traditional and authentically Greek. Narrow cobblestone laneways combine classic tavernas and chapels, along with luxury boutiques selling designer fashions from Greece and around the globe. Pelicans are the island’s official mascots, and you’ll frequently spot these friendly birds being petted and fed by locals.

When exploring Mykonos Island, keep your eye out for some hidden gems; the picturesque Paraportiani Church with its unusual architecture and its pristine magnificence is one of the most photographed churches in Europe. Then, the Armenistis Lighthouse, a charming spot for viewing the sunset on the north-western coast of Mykonos. Last, but not least, you may run into the island’s pet celebrity, Peter the Pelican, a beloved figure that frequents the alleys of Chora and never misses a photo opportunity!

Experience the mesmerizing magic of Santa Marina, a Luxury Collection Resort, Mykonos.

Choose from 101 guest rooms and suites, along with 13 villas featuring two to seven bedrooms. Beach-chic interiors offer modern, natural luxury, opening to balconies with hypnotic Aegean views. With this super-chic island’s only private sandy beach and the world’s first Buddha-Bar Beach, Santa Marina invites you to savour the glamorous lifestyle of Mykonos in the island’s most fashionable and sophisticated setting.

Exteriors are in tune with the simple cubist architecture native to the Cyclades, such as stacked stonework and whitewashed walls. The interiors step away from tradition, designed in a palate of neutral shades, with contemporary furniture, hardwood flooring and modern but simple art work. Rooms and suites feature wood and bamboo furniture, vaulted ceilings and neutral-coloured fabrics and upholstery.

Top-level services, such as a helipad and private pier, are available. At the Ginkgo Spa, water freely flows underneath raised floor tiles to create a zen-like welcome upon entering. ESPA brand therapies reflect the nature of Mykonos. Hammam treatments are given in a tiled and marbled space lined with traditional Ottoman-style sinks.

Thirteen private villas have up to four bedrooms. High rollers reserve the Presidential Villa which is centred around its own private pool and beautiful views of Mykonos.

Santorini captivates the imagination before you arrive… and lingers long after you have left it behind.

From its breathtaking peaks to the depths of the sparkling Aegean, the exquisite harmony of Santorini is inseparable from its turbulent origin. Around 1600 BC, a massive volcanic eruption sent the landmass that was its ancient ancestor plummeting to the ocean floor. The island that remains, crowned with jagged cliffs curved around the engulfed caldera, and dotted with the ruins of bygone civilizations, is Santorini as we know it today: a divine reminder of the beauty and energy that arise from the clash of opposing forces—fire and water, earth and sky.

It is no wonder that so many myths are entwined with the birth and evolution of Santorini. The island’s unique landscape and epic beauty suggest the intervention of gods. Whether you believe that this was the home of the lost city of Atlantis, a safe haven created for the love child of a nymph, or any of the fantastical origin stories that surround this Cycladic island beauty, you will be captivated around every corner by the layers of history and triumph revealed in Santorini’s land and embodied by its resilient people.

Nourished by sunshine, sea breezes, and volcanic soil, Santorini’s agricultural bounty, nurtured with pride and a deep sense of tradition, has made it a world-class culinary destination. Local growers, fishermen, and artisans take tremendous pleasure in sharing the wealth of Santorini gastronomic excellence, from the delectable cherry tomatoes and white eggplants to the remarkable array of indigenous cheeses, and of course the endless riches from the sea.

To visit Santorini is to experience its elemental power and to fall headlong in love—with the island, its charming people, its whitewashed villages sprinkled atop technicolor cliffs.

There are captivating ancient ruins to be explored; alluring coves to be discovered by sail or dive boat; magnificent lava beaches pebbled in red, black, and virtually every color of the rainbow; delightful shops and cafes to linger in for hours, awaiting the arrival of another glorious sunset.

Come, explore, and discover what has made this island among the most beloved destinations on the planet, bewitching artists and aristocrats, jet-setters and families.

Tuscany, like a fine wine, has been some time in the making…

Tuscany is a region in central Italy. Its capital, Florence, is home to some of the world’s most recognizable Renaissance art and architecture, including Michelangelo’s “David” statue, Botticelli’s works in the Uffizi Gallery and the Duomo basilica. Its diverse natural landscape encompasses the rugged Apennine Mountains, the island of Elba’s beaches on the Tyrrhenian Sea and Chianti’s olive groves and vineyards.

From the Etruscans to the Romans to the Renaissance, Tuscany is possibly the greatest repository of art in the world, from extraordinary paintings and sculpture to frescoes and architectural masterpieces.

Visitors to Tuscany come for many reasons. Many come in search of fine art, others to explore the extraordinary countryside. Gourmets and wine buffs descend on Tuscany to enjoy the simple yet wonderful cuisine and wine. Walkers enjoy the mountain paths, cyclists the rolling hills, summer vacationers the sea coast and islands. Students come to learn the beautiful Italian language and culture. Tuscany houses many museums with masterpieces by the greatest artists of all time, from Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, to Botticelli, Giotto and Donatello. Depending on your interests in history, art or sculpture – Tuscany has it all, spanning across time, styles and periods. Below, a list of the top museums in Tuscany that you should not miss!

The St. Regis offers a wonderful location on the north bank of the Arno and provides a very pleasant five-star service and all the luxuries you would expect from the brand. The Michelin-starred restaurant is an added bonus.

Situated in central Florence, the scenic St. Regis Florence has been the preferred stop of seasoned travelers since the 18th century. Steps away from iconic landmarks, it offers an unrivaled immersion into the cradle of the Renaissance. Experience myriad storied Florentine aesthetics throughout the hotel’s decidedly modern amenities and services.

There are marble hallways, coffered frescoed ceilings, a mix of antique and custom-made furnishings, vast gilt mirrors and magnificent Murano glass chandeliers, but don’t expect it to be at all stuffy; there is a cool, hip edge to the place and a jazzy soundtrack sets the scene as soon as you walk through the revolving door.

The art of Renaissance and the art of hospitality combined in a masterpiece of exclusive living.
The 200 square meters Presidential Suite located in the sumptuous front of the prestigious Renaissance Palace offers a unique view on the Arno River and the city’s legendary art treasures. The one of a kind suite enriched with refined furniture and antique artworks is decorated in the prestigious Medici style and features a dining room area seating up to 8 people for your private entertaining.

Modern luxury meets Renaissance splendour

Today, Belmond Villa San Michele is recognised as one of the country’s finest small boutique hotels. Stroll in the Italian gardens, bursting with lemon trees and fragrant roses, and savour superb Tuscan cuisine on the alfresco loggia as if in a private home.

Surrounded by lush trees and terraced gardens with views down to Florence, our location is hard to beat. Step inside and experience the beauty of a Renaissance monastery that is as much a part of Italy’s culture as the country’s greatest cathedrals and galleries. Explore the wooded hillside just below the ancient village of Fiesole less than five miles north of the centre of Florence.

The hotel offers restrained good taste rather than flashy luxury. It occupies a former Franciscan monastery dating from the 15th century (the weathered, porticoed façade is said to be by Michelangelo). As you would expect from a Belmond property, services and facilities are superb and include a well-established cooking school. The immaculate, terraced gardens are a delight and the panoramic pool — set in a green lawn at the top of the property — is a real boon in hot weather

here are plenty of child-friendly extras such as toys on beds and child-sized robes and slippers. The ‘Kid’s Club’ organises activities from June-September. Cooking and gardening lessons, pizza-baking classes, rafting on the Arno and a Circus Academy. Half portions are available at the pool restaurant. Many of the garden rooms and suites are interconnecting

Florence’s most lavish hotel is housed in a magnificent Renaissance palazzo and set in 11 acres of mature gardens.

Stroll the city’s biggest private garden – a tranquil haven of statues, fountains and centuries-old trees – or retire to your suite where frescoes line the walls amid original architectural features. Our historic Hotel, with its Michelin-starred Italian restaurant and a locally inspired Spa where you can spend afternoons in pure indulgence, is just steps away from the cultural heart of Florence.

Well-removed from the tourist hordes, it offers superb resort facilities and the sort of polished service you would expect from the Four Seasons brand. Florence’s Four Seasons is housed in Renaissance-era Palazzo della Gherardesca and La Villa, a 16th-century convent building across the garden. It is a luxury hotel in the grand style, a living museum of eye-popping works of art and original architectural details that greet you the moment you step through the front door into the lobby, a loggia decorated with an original bas-relief frieze and stucco work. Four Seasons favourite Pierre-Yves Rochon (who designed the George V in Paris) did the interiors which does have a whiff of Old Paris about it, in the best possible way.

Children of all ages are all welcome here, and aside from the huge, inviting garden and pool, there are all sorts of special facilities and services for children. The Kids’ Club (open in summer months) allows parents to go off and visit museums in peace, and play areas in the garden offer climbing frames, slides, swings and ping pong. There are children’s and teens’ menus in all the restaurants and special treatments for young guests in the spa.

A historic hotel with a prime position between the Duomo and the Ponte Vecchio, and a young, fresh vibe.

The Savoy lies at the very heart of the city overlooking café-lined Piazza della Republic. The Duomo and Ponte Vecchio is a short stroll to the south. This is prime retail territory; the elegant designer stores of Via Tornabuoni are a couple of blocks to the west, while more accessible high street fashion boutiques fan out to the east and the San Lorenzo market lies just to the north. Palazzo Strozzi, with its rotating roster of excellent exhibitions, lies just across the piazza.

The Savoy sees the first-time collaboration between Olga Polizzi, Director of Design for Rocco Forte Hotels and Laudemia Pucci, daughter of the legendary designer Emilio Pucci. Pucci’s influence is immediately apparent in the lobby where jazzy fabrics in typically bright colours jump out at you against cool, white paintwork and a pale marble floor. A specially designed Pucci scarf, in fuchsia and bright blue, features on the table tops of the restaurant terrace. Beyond the lobby area, the hotel has a more classic feel which Polizzi has ratcheted up with the use of gorgeous Italian fabrics, locally crafted cabinets and custom-made soft furnishings.

Presidential Suite, the best rooms in the house are the fourth floor Grand View suites with sitting rooms and panoramic outlooks. Connecting rooms and the larger suites are ideal for families and there are all sorts of special activities and services for children. There are mini bathrobes and slippers and children’s toiletries too. Cultural activities include a ‘Pinocchio Experience’ and treasure hunts in the Uffizi.

One of the oldest and best-preserved estates in Tuscany, Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco is a celebration of Italian heritage and natural beauty.

One of the oldest and best-preserved estates in Tuscany, Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco is located in Montalcino, Tuscany, in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Val d’Orcia. The property offers 23 suites and 11 luxury villas, as well as a spa, winery and vineyards. The Club, a private golf course and clubhouse set within the estate, is reserved for members only.

At Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco, it took a few years of welcoming guests and refining how best to communicate our estate’s uniquely Tuscan spirit for us to fully realise that villas are homes – and that means home cooking. Of course you can order in; but room service is never quite going to reproduce the scent of freshly-grated truffles on a twirl of pasta strands straight from the pan, or the aroma of a slow-braised roast as your own private chef takes it, still sizzling, from the oven.

In order to allow guests to appreciate to the full the warmth and intimacy of our Tuscan villas, we have designed a range of made-to-measure dining, catering and bar services, all available on a daily basis

Located at the heart of the Borgo in the estate’s former wine cellars, The Spa at Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco is a heaven of serenity, suffused in earth tones and natural hues. With its sauna, steam bath, relaxation area and lush private garden, this refuge offers rest and rejuvenation for body and soul. The Spa offers two complimentary paths to beauty and rejuvenation. Guests can choose between the face and body treatments of renowned Florentine apothecary Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella, or the anti-ageing products of leading Swiss brand La Prairie.

Taking an holistic approach to complete well-being, the spa promotes beauty, balance and relaxation through cleansing and vitalizing sensations. Your well-being is enhanced by the heat of the sauna and the sublime envelopment of the steam bath, while the relaxation lounge restores balance to the body through infusions.

The countryside of Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco provides an enchanting backdrop for adventure and exploration. Surrounded by green meadows and tall trees, the storybook setting provides a place for children to play, have fun and use their imagination. The family hotel in Tuscany offers a feast of unique programs and family activities. At Kids Club, children participate in absorbing activities and hours of entertainment led by our dedicated staff in a magical atmosphere. The club features cooking workshops and treasure hunts as well as swimming, archery and tennis lessons. Young guests can go horseback riding, explore the woods and attend outdoor fitness sessions. They can also try their hand at photography, have a go at oil painting or study the stars like an astronomer. Access is complimentary. A fun children’s dinner menu can be served upon request.

The beautiful six-bedroom Villa Oddi exudes sophistication and charm. Suffused with natural light, the home’s interiors are spacious and elegantly furnished. The residence features state-of-the-art technology, a private screening theater, a private tennis court, an infinity pool and breathtaking views of Montalcino. Villa Oddi is perfect for a family reunion or as a private business retreat. 466 sq. m. / 5,016 sq. ft.

Villa Biondi is one of the largest and most spacious villas at Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco. It stands on the cypress-lined avenue that runs alongside the golf course. This genuine Tuscan residence offers all of the warmth and intimacy of home, making it ideal for an extended family or group of friends. The two-story retreat also enjoys spectacular sunsets. Approximately 726 sq. m. / 7,815 sq. ft.

Castello di Velona Resort, Thermal Spa & Winery is a historic building dating back to the eleventh century, located on a hill overlooking the Val d’Orcia.

Set on a hilltop in the Southern Tip of Montalcino, Castello di Velona is a thousand-year-old Castle in the heart of Tuscany, with a 360° view on Brunello vineyards in Val d’orcin. Velona Castle was built as a medieval fortress in the 11th century as a lookout over the Francigena road leading pilgrims to Rome. The Watchtower remains intact since the 12th century, a reminder of the old rivalry between Siena and Florence. Castello Di Velona, as well as a 1,500 m² wellness center, has a restaurant with Tuscan specialties and its own production of wines and extra virgin olive oil.

In the Renaissance the Castle was turned into a residential villa and “Velona” is represented in frescoed maps in the Vatican. Darkness fell over the Castle for many centuries, until 2003, when it was resurrected from the ruins and turned into a luxury Resort by Mr. Gianluca Fabiani.

After falling in love with the property for its beauty, sorroundings and top position, Fabiani personally supervised the restructuring works that retained the original structure of the residence and discovered the Hot Thermal Springs. He used the best of architectural antique and reclaimed stone, cotto floors, limestone, travertine and marble elements. Fabiani put in the project his technical skills combined with an incredibly intense passion, the result being the stunning modern-day Castello di Velona Resort.

TERRACE ROYAL APARTMENT – 2 Connecting Rooms: Castle Pool Terrace Suite + Castle Family Suite  joined by a staircase with exclusive entrance. The Pool Terrace Suite, 70 square meters, is equipped with all the comforts to ensure you an incredible stay. Located on the ground floor of the Ancient South Tower of the Castle with a large private terrace of 150 square meters. Our Family Suites feature two separated bedrooms a living room and one or two bathrooms.

With the aromas of the herbs and spices and typical colours of the Tuscan countryside, the vineyards and olive groves surrounding the Castle, the Hotel’s wine and food offer fully satisfies the body and soul, both in the rustic Il Brunello in the historical part of the Castle, and in the modern setting of the Settimo SensoRestaurant, created in the new wing.

The rooms inside look onto the Val D’Orcia thanks to the panoramic terracesof the Castle’s two restaurants, one to the east, exposed to the first rays of the sun, the other to the west, pointing towards the sunset. Here guests experience complete sensory emotions, immersed in the silence and romance of the landscape, sampling fine wines and the olive oil produced by the Castle estate, and tasting the specialities of regional Tuscan and Mediterranean Italian cuisine, a blend of creativity in the kitchen and respect for the seasons and for genuine ingredients.

The Birthplace Of Western Civilisation …

Athens is a fascinating collision of ancient and modern, from the breathtaking grandeur of the Parthenon and the delightful winding alleys of the Plaka below, to exclusive boutiques and thriving nightlife.

Named after the goddess Athena and home to classic philosophers including Socrates and Plato, this captivating city is fiercely proud of its heritage and is committed to preserving its many cultural treasures. The magnificent ancient Acropolis is visible from almost every part of the city, crowned by the elegant columns of the Parthenon. In the shadow of the Acropolis lies the city’s oldest neighbourhood, the Plaka, where labyrinthine streets are bursting with market stalls. Head to Kolonaki and ascend Lycabettus Hill, the city’s highest point, for panoramic views over Athens and the Acropolis, the Temple of Zeus and Kalimarmaro Stadium, and immerse yourself in ancient tradition and enjoy a concert or classical Greek tragedy under the stars at Herodes Atticus Theatre – an ancient open-air Roman theatre with superb acoustics. Athens has a thriving café culture and vibrant restaurant scene, with lots of charming tavernas serving up the likes of grilled swordfish, souvlaki, calamari and stuffed vine leaves. In true European style, Athenians tend to eat later in the evening and can often be found chatting over a strong coffee in the early hours. Dining al fresco with the illuminated Acropolis before you is an unforgettable experience. Around an hour’s drive from Athens, the iconic Temple of Poseidon stands 60 metres above sea level on the rugged peninsula of Cape Sounio, where the Cape Sounio Grecotel Exclusive Resort has sunset views of the temple.

Greece’s first Four Seasons hotel is a triumphant revival of a modernist landmark, where guests can enjoy a beach holiday, destination spa and city break rolled into one glamorous, authentically Greek experience.

On the sophisticated Athens Riviera, at the tip of a pine-clad peninsula, Four Seasons offers the best of both worlds: a laid-back seaside escape just 30 minutes from the historical city centre. Discover the wonders of ancient civilization at the Acropolis, then return to Four Seasons to unwind and relax.

Vouliagmeni has been the most sought-after seaside suburb in Athens ever since the Astir Palace opened in the 1960s. This legendary resort, where Onassis, Bardot and Sinatra once hung out, is located on a pine-clad peninsula about half an hour from Athens International Airport. It’s a 45-minute drive to the Acropolis in one direction and the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion in the other. There are countless beaches and seaside dining options to explore along the Athens Riviera.

Enter a Four Seasons paradise – a pine-clad sanctuary of 30 hectares (75 acres) – featuring three private beaches, eight exciting restaurants, lounges and bars, upscale retail, and a Spa inspired by the teachings of Hippocrates.

A brilliant resort for family holidays where everyone will feel spoiled. There are three sandy, shallow bays; two heated swimming pools; and older kids can go stand-up paddle-boarding, kayaking or snorkelling. The Kids for All Seasons club welcomes children. Supervised activities range from gardening and treasure hunts to face painting. From tacos and pizzas to ice cream sundaes, kids are well catered for in every restaurant. Children get special toiletries, mini-bathrobes and slippers, and little treats.

Discover a golden era of Gothic palaces and Venetian romance on holidays to Venice as you glide by gondola through the floating city…

Sipping macchiatos for breakfast, stopping for cicchetti come lunch and drinking cocktails created by George Clooney at the Hollywood A-list’s favourite waterfront hotel; it’s easy to fit into the Venetian way of life – relaxed, car-free and somewhat otherworldy. Come summer, Venice heaves with tourists around Piazza San Marco and the Rialto Bridge, but slink off to tiny fairytale alleyways and you’ll discover hidden treasures like one of the last few shops in the city where oars are still handcrafted for gondoliers and the almost secret church of San Vidal where world-class chamber concerts are held near-on nightly.

Venice holidays are as much about huge marble palaces as they are about getting lost in a maze of storybook canals and pretty bridges, stopping for great food, music and gelato along the way. After all, the city is nicknamed La Serenissma (serene) for a reason.

We’ve seen the Titian masterpieces inside Galleria del Accademia, admired the opulent Gothic architecture of Doge’s Palace, watched opera beneath the jaw-dropping ceiling of La Firenze and taken midnight walks along San Marco pier when the city silences all but the sound of gondolas bobbing up and down.

If you want to escape the stuccoes, frescoes and high ceilings, we can recommend the modern art at Peggy Guggenheim Collection, an iconic Bellini in Harry’s Bar or a Vaporetto ride to Burano Island where you’ll find those Instagram-worthy candy coloured houses and mouthwatering swordfish pasta.

This 15th-century palazzo occupies one of the loveliest spots on the Grand Canal, looking across to the magnificent Salute church, and has equally sumptuous interiors to match, with priceless antiques and frescoes, and a small but exquisite spa.

Overlooking the Grand Canal in the heart of Venice, The Gritti Palace boasts one of the most enthralling views of the lagoon city – from the island of San Giorgio Maggiore past landmarks Punta della Dogana and Santa Maria della Salute Basilica to the Peggy Guggenheim Collection. Dating to 1475, this noble palace and luxury hotel is a place of exceptional art and elegance that has retained its reassuringly intimate and familiar feel of a private residence. A historical treasure where heritage and culture blend with renewed Venetian style, The Gritti Palace is a refined version of its iconic self, offering attentive service, a delectable culinary experience and new avenues for relaxation and pleasure. From the artistic design of its signature suites and iconic terraces to the Gritti Epicurean School, Riva Yacht experiences and Riva Lounge and the Gritti Spa branded by Sisely Paris, The Gritti Palace is where multiple generations of elite global influencers gather to explore, taste and celebrate.

An ultra-luxurious hotel located just five minutes by boat from St Mark’s Square.

You don’t have to be in the heart of Venice to truly appreciate its beauty. Sometimes it’s better to enjoy a little time away from the crowds but still easily pop over to the city when you want. This Belmond hotel, which is located on the island of Guidecca, gives you just that. There are very few, if any hotels that have a pool in Venice due to size and the nature of the city; the Belmond hotel has an Olympic sized pool in its extensive grounds. And as you laze waterside, attentive hosts will be on hand to cater to your every whim whether that’s a refreshing drink or a light snack. There are also plenty of shaded spots to head to in the gardens, some with beautiful views out over the water, and there’s even a tennis court in the grounds. The interiors are pretty special too with one-of-a-kind antiques furnishing grand spaces, dark wood accents and light-filled lounges.

The rooms and suites all have exquisite classical design and sumptuously comfortable fittings. They have views of either the gardens or the lagoon and some even look over towards St Mark’s Square over the water – definitely our favourite rooms. Some rooms such as the Garden View Room, the Lagoon View Junior Suites and the Garden Suites feature a small balcony or terrace.

Each morning you can spend a while in bed before heading down to the delightful waterside Oro Restaurant to make the most of the extensive breakfast buffet. The setting is sublime with a gold-leaf gilded ceiling and a striking glass chandelier. Lunch is a casual affair and takes place at the al fresco Cip’s Club which has a deck over the water and Venice City views. This restaurant is also open for dinner and is one of the city’s most romantic spots for a dinner ‘per due’.

The Alcova suite is the star with its 18th-century frescoes by Tiepolo.

Set in one of the city’s eight, great monumental palazzos on the Grand Canal, Aman Venice embodies all that is sumptuous and sensuous about La Serenissima – but while its frescoed interiors sate appetites for grandeur, they invoke balance and harmony too. Rococo works of art are offset by the contemporary restraint of Jean-Michel Gathy interiors; private gardens and year-round wellness encourage calming introspection. Combining a reverence to the past and an appreciation of the present, local experts curate authentic, cultural encounters away from the crowds, reaching the heart of Venetian passions.

ROME 2021

Discover Italy’s iconic capital – a time capsule of centuries old history and a chic city break of fashion, frivolity and fabulous food…

Holidays to Rome are as impeccably composed as the thousands of desirable addresses you’ll stumble upon in a city that celebrates history, art, fashion and food in style. The French gifted Rome the stately open-air Spanish Steps, Emperor Vespasian commissioned the world’s most breathtaking amphitheatre in back in AD 72 and the Vatican, now a country in itself, began life in the 4th century as a basilica built over St Peter’s grave. Expect Old Masters housed in private galleries, centuries old history inside fresco-filled churches and stories of bloody gladiator battles and lavish temples dedicated to Olympian Gods. These well-preserved ruins provide a jaw-dropping backdrop to a thoroughly swish city – la dolce vita lived out in Renaissance piazzas, gilded bars and Via Condotti’s high-end fashion.

Rome holidays are as photogenic as your wildest dreams and it does well to walk the ancient sites of the Pantheon and Palatine Hill but also stop and linger a while. There’s the suited and booted sipping espresso in 18th-Century cafes, vespas zipping past ornate piazzas and the glam squad navigating cobblestoned streets in heels with ease as passeggiata unfolds. Roam pretty streets with cut-to-order pizza slices, savour Instagram-worthy gelato, take aperitivo hour in Piazza Navona and dine rooftop, Michelin starred, with fairytale Colosseum views.

Tell us you want to throw a coin in the Trevi Fountain and we’ll agree you must, but also recommend a late night return as the stone glows gold in the moonlight. If you’re inspired by movie scenes set in Rome we’ll put you in the heart of Villa Borghese, Piazza del Popolo and the Mouth of Truth in the portico of Santa Maria in Cosmedin Church. Or ask us about the Colesseum and we’ll share secrets of the Third Tier underground tunnels and also suggest walking at dusk behind Palazzo dei Senatori to see the ancient Forum ruins illuminated after dark.

A complete 5 star hotel in Rome with magnificent dining options such as our panoramic Michelin-starred restaurant

Hassler Roma is a legendary, luxury five star hotel in Rome’s City Center located at the top of the Spanish Steps. Hassler is a residence and a luxurious sanctuary meticulously created to give the most memorable experiences of the Eternal City. Situated in the heart of Rome’s historic city center, the Hassler is one of the best 5 star hotels in Rome.

Perched above the iconic Piazza di Spagna, this storied hotel overlooks Rome’s most elegant shopping district, centred around the boutique-lined Via dei Condotti. For guests who don’t want to navigate through the crowds on the Spanish Steps, the Hassler’s private electric car can whisk you directly down the hill to your favourite designer artelier. Hotel Hassler is also within walking distance to several city sights—including the Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona and Villa Borghese—and many of the upper-floor rooms and suites, and the penthouse restaurant, boast sweeping views over the city rooftops and church domes.

The Hassler celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2018, marking five generations of the Wirth family at its helm. Over the past few years, the hotel has been steadily updating its lavish, if somewhat stodgy, décor of dark oak, veined marble and potted ferns under the impeccable eye of Astrid Schiller Wirth. The latest renovation is the lobby, a stunning Art Deco-inspired space of chocolate-brown lacquered wood, black granite and sleek brass tempered by an original Murano chandelier, rediscovered stained glass windows and flawless Ciaffoni floral design. The overall effect is a contemporary, sophisticated space that remains true to its Belle Époque origins.

For a taste of Hassler’s historic opulence, settle in with the fur-bedecked clientele at the adjacent Salone Eva for a drink. You’ll be surrounded by a sumptuous, though predictable, triumph of tufted velvet, thick carpets and bevelled mirrors that makes one rather hope that Schiller Wirth turns her exacting gaze here next.

The modern black, white and red Presidential Suite Trinità dei Monti is said to be especially favoured by Karl Lagerfeld, and the Penthouse Villa Medici Suite has retained its original wood panelling and sweeping private terrace, but boasts an updated look and amenities (including bulletproof glass). You don’t have to spring for a suite to enjoy the refined comfort and service of the Hassler; even Classic and Deluxe rooms have a soothingly elegant atmosphere, with particular attention paid to perfectly soundproofed triple-glazed windows, upscale mini bars, a pillow menu, nightly turndown service, and marble and mosaic bathrooms (some with whirlpool tubs) stocked with the hotel’s own Amorvero products.

The Hassler’s Michelin-starred Imagò has been the hotel’s flagship restaurant for the past decade, where chef Francesco Apreda serves Italian-fusion cuisine each evening in the sixth floor panoramic dining room that has one of the city’s most spectacular views.

Hotel Hassler is especially welcoming to families

The classily opulent Eden sets the bar for high-end luxury in Rome.

File under ‘the best of both worlds’. The Eden is raised aristocratically above the fray near the top of the Spanish Steps, which gives it breathtaking views over the whole centro storico to St Peter’s and beyond – especially from the rooftop bar/restaurant and breakfast room. But at the same time, it’s just a 10-minute walk from the buzz, sights and shops of Piazza di Spagna.

Before its Dorchester refit, the Eden was the most understated of Rome’s luxe hospitality palaces. That’s no longer quite true – there’s plenty of gold and marble on view now. This said, the design by French architects Bruno Moinard and Claire Betaille is never less than tasteful.

There’s no such thing as a small room at the new Eden – during the revamp, room numbers were cut from 121 to 98 to give more space, with 33 of those being suites (four signature). Designers Moinard and Betaille made the right call in going for a more subdued palette in guest rooms vis à vis the more opulent communal spaces, but all the detailing is top drawer. Bathrooms are a tad more bling, with lashings of gold and sparkly white marble.

High windows ensure plenty of natural light, with other bonus points including Bottega Veneto amenities, Bang & Olufsen televisions and sound systems and the (admittedly slightly complex) option of controlling just about everything in the room from an iPad.
